WAXING
1
How long should my hair be for body waxing services?
The majority of the hair intended to be waxed must be between 1/4 to 1/2 of an inch long. This amounts to TWO WEEKS of growth. Hair longer than that is not a problem, it can be trimmed by the technician. Attempts to trim on your own could result in making the hair too short.
2
How should I maintain my waxing?
Results are best if they are maintained with frequently scheduled waxes. A bikini wax should be performed every 4–6 weeks at regular intervals. Any longer than 8 weeks and you lose the benefits of waxing. Frequent waxing results in thinner, softer hair.
3
Should I tweeze between waxes?
They are your eyebrows, you can do what you want with them! That said, if you are going for a specific shape it's not always easy to follow the shape and keep your brows even on your own, sometimes it's best to leave it up to the professionals.
4
What kind of wax do you use?
We alternate between soft and hard wax depending on the area for optimal results and comfort.
5
What is hard wax?
Hard wax is a type of wax that does not require a trip for removal. It is best used for coarse, curly hair or for people with skin sensitivity.
6
What is a Brazilian wax?
A Brazilian wax is considered the removal of ALL hair from the top of the labia all the way down and around up to the top of the tush crack, and then any combination of hair pattern or design on the pubic bone.
7
Are Brazilian waxes safe?
YES!! and when done correctly, they don't hurt as bad as you might think they will. There is no need to have hair down there. So feel free to take off or leave as much as you want.
8
Can I get a Brazilian wax while on my period?
This answer varies depending on whom you ask. At Charm City Skin, our answer is, if you don't mind, then we don't mind. Some may say that you are more sensitive when you are menstruating, but that also varies from person to person.
9
Can I get waxed while on Retina A?*
The most simple answer would be no. But (and there is a but) there are a few alternatives that we can do. One alternative is to prepare the skin with a lubricant in order to prevent any skin tears. Secondly, we can use hard wax. Thirdly, we can use threading.**
*Retin A is a vitamin A derivative that is used topically as a daily exfoliation.
**Threading is an ancient form of hair removal that utilizes thread.
10
How can I expect to feel after waxing?
Everyone is different and can expect to have different reactions. Most of the time you will experience slight swelling and some pink or red skin reaction. Occasionally, one may experience red bumps and slight itching as well. These symptoms should decrease anywhere from 20 minutes to 24 hours. The time limit of the skin reaction can vary from the type of skin you have or the frequency in which you wax. You can help to reduce the redness and swelling by using a cool compress or ice.
11
What should I do to prevent/get rid of in-grown hairs?
In-grown hairs are not something that affects everyone. It most often affects those with coarse, curly, or wavy hair. For those it does affect, it tends to be quite bothersome. First and foremost, waxing tends to sometimes make the situation better. Shaving is known to create the worst of the in-grown hair afflictions. Secondly, if you still do get them from waxing you must try to do a couple of things. You should always try to keep the area clean and dry. You should use some sort of scrub* in the shower. You should then use some sort of treatment that dries out the pores. Examples of that are tend skin or rubbing alcohol. Lastly you want to avoid picking at them. It will only cause redness and scarring.
*A scrub is a form of removing dead skin cell from your body using an abrasive product. You can use one that is salt or sugar based. But there are many different kinds out there.
FACIALS
12
How often should I have a facial?
We recommend that you come once a month, depending on skin sensitivity.
13
What are the benefits of regular facials?
Healthy skin is beautiful skin! Maintaining a proactive skincare regimen, both at home and with a professional, will help slow down the signs of aging, and keep your skin looking clear, healthy and nourished.
14
Will my skin be red or irritated after my facial?
Slight redness is totally normal after a facial, especially when any type of chemical exfoliant is involved, or you've received a large amount of extractions during your treatment. Slight redness may be experienced for a short amount of time, but will usually reduce shortly after your facial service is completed. Certain skin types, including those who tend to be more sensitive, may be prone to experiencing more redness post treatment.
15
Am I able to receive a facial waxing, such as an eyebrow or lip wax, the same day as my facial?
Yes! To ensure the comfort and safety of your skin, waxing is done first, prior to your facial. Any areas waxed will be carefully avoided during exfoliation, so as not to further irritate the skin.
16
Do men get facials too?
Absolutely! Facials are very beneficial for anyone, and can help reduce skin sensitivity from shaving, as well as other basic skincare concerns. Please note: if you suffer from sensitivity after shaving, it is recommended that you do not shave immediately before your facial, as this can lead to further irritation.
17
Wedding facials: how many weeks before my wedding should I schedule?
If you are a current Charm City Skin skin care client who is familliar with our products one week should be suffiicient. New clients should book at least two weeks beforehand in order to monitor the way your skin reacts to the facial.
